David and Barry tell us that fishing operations on MV Audacious have improved with replacing the Rapp Pentagon with Scantrol SYM 7
it’s great to have more flexibility and control again, especially working different depths and bottom types.
Turning has been improved
Much smoother operation of the winches. During turning the gear stays level and square when monitoring net sensors.
Better winch dynamics, we can see the winches operating more freely whilst fishing in various conditions/depths.
As our trawl wire gets consumed by wear & tear and we get lower on the winch barrel, we will see the benefits of SYM 7 further.
Why did David and Barry upgrade from Rapp Pentagon to Scantrol SYM 7?
The lack of service agents, parts & ease of access to advice for Pentagon drove us to move to SYM 7.
The winches were “stiff”, in our experience pressure settings need adjusting to suit the wire on the winch, weather conditions, depth of water being towed & twin/single trawl
